what can you do for Katrina Victims

September 2, 2005

Troy Lee and Officer Joel Wallace embrace in Waveland, MS.

The property damage is BEYOND any ability to fathom. But this tragedy has many personal faces. Following is an email I sent out to others as we prepare to go help in what ways we can. Pray for our safety.

Wondering what to do to help?

I know that this task seems overwhelming. I ask you to listen to your heart. Our neighbors, family and friends are in desperate circumstances.

I have been in contact with MEMA. The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency. And with the Command Center at the Mississippi Department of Health. They need teams of people to assist with search and rescue efforts. They anticipate needing volunteers for several more weeks. They need as much manpower as we can get together at this point.

So, if you are willing to help we can get the certification needed to get to the coast or where ever they say we are needed.

We will need to be self sustaining for the duration of the time there. That means what it says.

So
1. if you are interested in helping with this let me know. ASAP

2. If you have a particular expertise, that might be needed, then let me know that might affect where we go/ what we do/ or the division of a team.

3. If you have a specific time frame that you could be gone, let me know that also. It may be that we can put together teams with two different time frames.

4. We will have to carry our own supplies of gas. Gas we may have to exit via Alabama. Gas is arriving in Jackson today. So a fill up there would get you to the coast at least. 10 extra gallons per vehicle should get you out to Alabama where you can refuel.

5. If there are not enough people responding to this effort, there is one or two other opportunities that I know of.

Let me know.

    Believing Thomas,

Please keep us updated. I would love to help, but won’t be able to assist in that way. I’ve donated $$, but feel so impotent. I’ve prayed.

Let us know how it all goes. And if you have other ideas of helping, let us know that too.
