The Birthday Candle

January 10, 2007

Eleven years ago today I became a father. The things that I have learned from Eli are too many to count. I learned among other things that I had no idea what it meant to be a father.

Eli is the only one of our kids that has a birthday candle like this. I noticed today as we let it burn down another year, that its over half burned. That is a sobering thought. But today is a day of celebration of the birth of my first born son. We have given him a blessing each year and today I see him. We used to say that he could be anything he wanted to and that we would help him. But that has been changing. God is shaping him, molding him. He has a specific purpose in this life. He is maturing. He is becoming less self centered. He is placing trust in God. A while back when discussing our adoption plans his reply was “If God wants it to happen then it will”. He’s my son and I am well pleased.

Happy Birthday Big E.

You’re making me cry with the 11 being halfway there. We’re in the same boat.

I know you are proud of Eli. Happy Birthday!

Don’t know if Eli realizes that he holds a special place in our hearts……………tell him we hope that his day was wonderful.

THAT BOY! He is something else. Such big chunks of you and Kim while at the same time he’s his own person.

Thank you God for Eli’s life, for the ways you use him to shape T&K and for the ginormous blessing of knowing you…

    Much love from Ang
