Makes God Smile

October 25, 2007

There are times when it seems the veil between heaven and earth gets thin.  When we have moments that are just so special that eternity is so close.  This video is of a guy named Paul Potts who is a cell phone salesman.  This is the British version/precursor of American Idol.  so watch then read the rest.

You can watch all the others and he has a CD out called “One Chance”.

I just think that makes God smile.  A child of his that has little self confidence, has been bullied and made fun of all his life and then gets to shine.  The song is one of those thin moments as well, no matter who sings it.  But I think this is really great.  (ht: Rob Bell)

I watched this several weeks (months?) ago and it still makes me cry. I think you are right that God smiles when we use the gifts he gave us, especially when it blesses others.

Donna, I am not an opera fan by any means. I do like this Aria, but watching someone else sing it, doesn’t affect me the way that watching Paul Potts sing it does.

I think your right about it blessing others.

i second what donna has to say here. when i saw this clip the first time those months ago, i reacted the way the hosts did. you just don’t think that someone who works in a warehouse would sound like that. you think they ought to be in a troop singing on tour, or on broadway. it just is an example of how we are not to judge people by certain circumstances. i mean … we are heirs to the throne of God, in a sense. we are His children. i am guilty of looking down on His children, and thinking how can they such-and-such …

this is a great video. thanks for the reshowing of it! let’s see the opera singer in all of God’s children around us.
